Question 37071: Can u please tell me if I have done this right.
THe student's Council has set the ticket price at $200 per coupple. The student's council has already sold 50 tickets and through their own marketing research has found for every $15 decrease in price the number of couples increases by 5.
FInd the max revenue.
MY EQUATION THAT I HAD SET UP WAS THIS:
(200-15x)(50+5x)=R
and I got x=13.3
IS that equation correct?
I need this ASAP

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
I think that your solution is wrong, but I am not sure. I have used derivatives and the answer that I got is x=-275/150, but it could be wrong.
The equation is -75x^2+275x+10000=0

Answer by stanbon(75887) About Me  (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
(200-15x)(50+5x)=R
R=-75x^2+250x+10000
To find the maximum value of R
either graph the function or
use x=-b/2a and the corresponding
R value. If you do the latter you
will find that x=-b/2a=1.667 and the
corresponding R value will be 10208.33.
So,
The equation is correct. The maximum R is not.
The maximum point of the graph is (1.667, 10208.33)
The maximum revenue is $10,208.33
Cheers,
