This is a good example of using the Binomial Probability Distribution, because for each member of the sample, there can only be two outcomes.

In other words, for each person, they will either have undesirable side effects, or they will not!

The expected number of people who will have undesirable side effects is given by:

mean (or the expected value)=n*p

where n is the sample size and p is the theoretical underlying probability

so, we have

mean=100*(1/20)

mean=5

So, we can expect to see 5 people out of 100 who take this drug to have undesirable side effects.
