Question 368862: Find three consecutive odd integers such that the sum of the smallest and 4 times the largest is 61.
I hate to ask someone to help, but i've been stuck on this for maybe an hour or 2 and i just cant understand itt! I know the answers are 9, 11, and 13, but thats only cause some kid told me. But i cant figure out how to get it! I would aprpriciate any help at all. (:

Let x be the first odd integer.

Then the next two consecutive odd integers are x+2 and x+4

Then we are given:

the sum of the smallest and 4 times the largest is 61 or

x+4*(x+4)=61

x+4x+16=61

5x=45

x=9

Thus the three consecutive odd integers are 9, 11, and 13 as you already knew.
