Question 368712: Find S if r=2 inches and theta=12 degrees
Answer by neatmath(302) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! The arc length s is given by the radius times the angle theta, or
s=r*theta
But the key to this problem is that we need to know the measure of theta in RADIANS!
So 12 degrees equals how many radians?
12 degrees = [(pi/180)*12]radians or
theta=pi/15 radians
So, our arc length is given by
s=r*theta
s=2*(pi/15)
s=(2*pi)/15 inches
which you can approximate using the value of 3.1415926... for pi.
I hope this helps!
