You usually need to have a common demoninator. Think back to when you would add or subtract fractions, the only condition is that you need to have a common denominator. Once you find the least common denominator(LCD), you need to multiply each fraction (numerator) by the LCD in order to eliminate the fractions. Once you do this, use the transformations to solve for the variable.
