Question 367007: a husband is left handed and his wife is right handed two children are born to the couple each child is just as likely to be the left handed as right handed what is the probability that both children are left handed also write which definition of probability will be applied here and why ?
2- a letter is taken out of ULTIMATE randomly and a letter is taken out of MULTIPLE what are chance that they are the same letters ?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1. Just list the elements of the sample space:{RR, RL, LR, LL}. The probability is 0.25.
2. Letters in common:
U (ULTIMATE and MULTIPLE both have one)
L (ULTIMATE has 1, MULTIPLE has 2)
I (ULTIMATE and MULTIPLE both have one)
M (ULTIMATE and MULTIPLE both have one)
T (ULTIMATE has 2, MULTIPLE has one)
E (ULTIMATE and MULTIPLE both have one)
P(U from ULTIMATE and MULTIPLE) = %281%2F8%29%2A%281%2F8%29+=+1%2F64
P(L from ULTIMATE and MULTIPLE) = %281%2F8%29%2A%282%2F8%29+=+2%2F64, etc...
Since the events are mutually exclusive, then the probability that they are the same letters is 1%2F64+%2B+2%2F64%2B1%2F64%2B1%2F64%2B2%2F64%2B1%2F64+=+8%2F64+=+1%2F8.
