Let c = age of Carmelo
a = age of Arwin
1st equation: c = a + 12
2nd equation: 1/3*c = 1/2*a
multiply by 3 to get
c = 3/2*a
substitute c = 3/2*a in equation 1
3/2*a = a + 12
1/2*a = 12
a = 24
c = 3/2 * 24 = 36
Arwin is 24 years old now.
Carmelo is 36 years old now.
