*Note: one deals with fractions the same as we would whole nunbers.

the difference being we need to have them in the same form before we complete the operation

am not quite sure what you meant for the second term on this one

(11/5-1 2/3)-(-4/9* 18)

(11/5 - 5/3))-(-4/9* 18)

(33/15 - 25/15))-(-4/9* 18)

8/15 -(-4/9* 18)

8/15 + 8 Or 8 8/15



x-1/40=11/40

x = 11/40 + 1/40 = 12/40 = 3/10  (in lowest terms)



-7/3* y = 5

mulitplyin both sides by (-3/7)

y = 5* (-3/7) = -15/7



 4 5/8 - 3 1/4 - 4 1/8

 4 5/8 - 3 2/8 - 4 1/8

37/8 - 26/8 - 33/8

-22/8 = -11/4 = -2 3/4
