You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let t = the amount of time they'll be 400 miles apart. Then
%2840t%29%5E2+%2B+%2830t%29%5E2+=+400%5E2, by the Pythagorean theorem.
1600t%5E2+%2B+900t%5E2+=+160000,
25t%5E2+=+1600,
t%5E2+=+64, or t = 8. They will be 400 miles apart after 8 hours.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Bus A west 40 mph
Bus B north 30 mph
distance 400 miles
..
let time be t
...
Bus A distance traveled = 40t
Bus B distance traveled = 30 t
..
(40t)^2+(30t)^2=400^2
1600t^2+900t^2=160000
2500t^2=160000
/2500
t^2= 160000/2500
t^2=64
t=8 hours
After 8 hours
