You can put this solution on YOUR website! Solve the systems of equations by graphing. Then classify the system.

  :
 You want to plot each equation on a graph, in order to do this it has to be
 in the form; y = mx + b
 :
 Equation 1
 6x - y = 36
 Subtract 6x from both sides
 -y = -6x + 36
 y has to be positive, multiply by -1, this changes all the signs
 y = 6x - 36
 To plot this equation, substitute values for x, find y, a table like this
 x | y
 ------
 -1 |-42
 0 |-36
 +6 | 0
 +10|+24
 :
 Since it is a linear equation you actually only need two coordinates
 Should look like this

   :
 do the same with equation 2
 6x + y = -12
 Subtract 6x from both sides
 y = -6x - 12
 :
 To plot this equation, substitute values for x, find y, a table like this
 x | y
 ------
 -3 |+6
 0 |-12
 +1 |-18
 +4||-36
 :
 Plot both equations on the same graph, note the intersect at x=2, y=-24
 This is the solution to this system of equations
 :
 Should look like this

  ;
 This is classified as, "an independent system of equations" (one solution)
 :
 You can prove this to yourself, substitute 2 for x and -24 for y and see
 that both original equations are true.
 :
 Did this help you find your way in this?? Any questions?
