Question 363878: A gardener wants to create a triangular garden in the shape of a right triangle with shortest side length x – 6y ft. and the middle length side x + 6y ft. What is an algebraic expression for the area of the garden? Be sure to multiply this out and express in simplest correct mathematical form, including units.
I thought I had this until I looked at the formula for a right triangle
This is what I have
(x-6y)(x+6y) using FOIL
= x^2 - 36y^2 ft But how does this fit with a^2 + b^2 = c^2
Would I divide x^2 - 36y^2 by 2? I am so confused.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
A gardener wants to create a triangular garden in the shape of a right triangle with shortest side length x – 6y ft. and the middle length side x + 6y ft.
-------------------------
What is an algebraic expression for the area of the garden?
Be sure to multiply this out and express in simplest correct mathematical form, including units.
-------
I thought I had this until I looked at the formula for a right triangle
which is Area = (1/2)base*height
-----------------------------------------
This is what I have
Area of the triangle = (1/2)(x-6y)(x+6y) using FOIL
= (1/2)(x^2 - 36y^2) ft^2
---------------------------------
But how does this fit with a^2 + b^2 = c^2
This is the formula for finding the length of
the hypotenuse of a right triangle.
