You can put this solution on YOUR website! Can A contains 10% blue paint and 90% red paint. How many liters of paint from can A should i mix with x liters of blue paint to get paint which is 60% blue?
can A -> 10% blue -> call amount A
x litres blue paint -> 100% blue -> call amount x
result -> mixture that is 60% blue -> call amount A + x
%blue in A * amount A + %blue in B * amount B = %blue in C * amount C
10% * A + 100% * x = 60% * (A + x)
0.1A + x = 0.6A + 0.6x
0.1A - 0.6A = 0.6x - x
-0.5A = -0.4x
0.5A = 0.4x
A = 0.8x litres
example:
5 liters of blue paint -> x = 5
A = 0.8x = 0.8 * 5 = 4 liters of 10% blue paint
10% * 4 litres + 100% * 5 liters = 60% * (4 + 5) litres
end up with 9 liters of paint
0.1 * 4 + 5 = 0.6 * 9
0.4 + 5 = 5.4
5.4 = 5.4
4 litres of can A paint (10% blue) for every 5 liters of 100% blue paint to get 60% blue paint,
or ratio 4:5
