Question 362940: I need help solving 7x-z x=-1/2 z=1/5
Answer by nyc_function(2741) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! 7x - z
Replace x with -1/2 and z with 1/5.
7(-1/2) - (1/5) =
-7/2 - 1/5 = -37/10

"I really appreciate your help but I was wondering if I missed something when I did this problem with my brother he had a extra step. This is how his answer came out: -7/2 - 1/5 = 35/10 - 2/10 = -37/10. Could you let me know what I missed. Thank you very much for your time and help."
First of all, 35/10 - 2/10 DOES NOT = -37/10.
Notice that 35 must be negative to produce the
fraction -37/10. Your brother forgot to include the negative sign in front of 35.
Secondly, you forgot to look for the LCD. The LCD is needed when two fractions have different denominators. The LCD in this case is 10. From there on, you simply apply the fraction rules that you are familiar with.
I hope this helps. If you get stuck again, let me know. Write to me at: fdr84@hotmail.com
