Can you please help me with this problem:Olimpiada Ivanova, a world-record holding race-walker, is on one end of a 6 mile track. John Doe, an average walker, is on the other end of the track. The two start walking towards each other and meet in 1/2 hour. If Olimpiada's average speed exceeds John's by 6 mph, find the speed of both walkers. Useing the 5-step method. Thankyou
..
john Doe speed = x mph
Ivanova speed = x+6 mph..
they are walking towards each other so effective speed = x+x+6
=2x+6 mph.
..
distance = 6 miles
time = 1/2 hour
speed = 2x+6 mph
...
6/(2x+6) =1/2
2x+6=2*6
2x+6 12
2x= 12-6
2x= 6
x= 3 mph speed of john
Ivanova's speed = x+6 = 3+6 =9 mph
