Question 36185: use the discriminant to determine the number of solutions of the quadratic equation, and whether the solutions are real or complex. Note: It is not necessary to find the roots; just determine the number and types of solutions.
5x^2 + 8x + 7 = 0

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
As I posted earlier on a similar problem, just calculate b%5E2+-+4ac, where in this case, 5x%5E2+%2B+8x+%2B+7+=+0, a =5, b= 8, and c= 7.

b%5E2+-+4ac
8%5E2+-+4%2A5%2A7
64-140
-76

Since this discriminant is less than 0, there will be NO REAL solutions. The solutions will be complex.
