Question 360680: The sum of the heights of all the students in a class is 1,472 in. The mean height is 5ft-4in. How many students are in the class?
I came up with 23. I changed the 5ft to 60 inches and added 4. Then I took 1472 divided it by 64 = 23 students. If I am correct the next question is:
The median height is 5ft 2in. How many students are 5ft 2 in or taller? I don't know how to get this answer.. Then the last questions is how many students are shorter then 5ft 2in.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

Hi,
Correct: sum of heights/# of peole = mean hieght
Letting x represent the number of students
1472in/x = 64in
1472/64 = x
23 = x the number of students measured
23 in this sample of students. Hint: 23 = 11 + 1 + 11 (middle student is mean height)
twelve are 5ft 2 in 'or' taller and 11 are shorter then 5ft 2in
