You can put this solution on YOUR website! devon, michael and trisha ate a pizza that had been cut into 8 equal slices. Devon ate 1/4 of the pizza. Trisha ate 3/8 of the pizza. If there was no pizza left over, how much of the pizza did Michael eat? devon & Trisha ate 1/4 +3/8
 =5/8 of the pizza
 ...
 Michael ate 1-5/8

You can put this solution on YOUR website! We are looking for
where d is slices eaten by Devon, t is slices eaten by Trisha, m is slices eaten by Michael, and p is total Pizza slices.

We are given that they ate the entire 8 slices, so

Devon ate 1/4 of the pizza, or (1/4)*8 or 2 slices.

Trish ate 3/8 of the pizza or (3/8)*8 or 3 slices.

Since all 8 slices were eaten, Michael must have eaten the remaining 3 slices!

 Thus,
  or which checks out!
EDIT: Of course I forgot to put it into the proper form!

Since Michael ate 3 pieces, he ate 3 of the 8 pieces, which means he ate 3/8 of the pizza!

Michael ate 3 slices of pizza, or 3/8 of the entire pizza!

 I hope this helps!

 Michael ate 8/8-(1/4)-(3/8) = (8/8)-(2/8)-(3/8) = 3/8 of the pizza
