Question 358888: A piggy bank contains exactly 100 coins that total $5.00. The coins consist of pennies, dimes, and half dollars. How many of the coins are pennies?
I have tried just by guessing and checking for a while now but still haven't gotten anything. If you could help me that would be awesome.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1.P%2BD%2BH=100
2.P%2B10D%2B50H=500
Subtract eq. 1 from eq. 2,
P%2B10D%2B50H-P-D-H=500-100
3.9D%2B49H=400
Equation 3 has only 1 integer solution.
H=1
D=39
Then from eq. 1,
P%2B1%2B39=100
P%2B40=100
P=60
60 pennies, 39 dimes, and 1 half dollar.
