Hi,
Note Cartesian Plane is made up of 4 quadrants; I,II,III & IV
Quadrant I both x and y values are positive. (Quadrants named counter-clockwise)
Here quadrant II has Pt(-3,4) and the Pt(-5,4) you refer to in 2nd question
Pt(-5,4)is 5 units to the left of the y-axis and 4 units above the x-axis
As to: "the point (a,b) is _______ in quadrant II when a<0"
considering, when a<0, Pt(a,b) may be in the III quadrant, depending the y value b.
