Question 357556: Can anyone please help me how to solve this problem..I really need this two problems can you please anyone help me thanks :D .
1. A rectangle has a perimeter of 144 inches. The width of the rectangle is 12 inches less than the length. What is the width, in inches, of the rectangle?
2. Meldrick had $28 in his savings account. On Monday, he deposited his earnings from mowing lawns on the weekend. He earned the same amount the next weekend but deposited only 40% of these earnings. After making the two deposits, he had $70 in his account. How much did he earn in one weekend?

1. 2W + 2L = 144 ___ dividing by 2 ___ W + L = 72
___ W = L - 12
___ substituting ___ (L - 12) + L = 72 ___ 2L = 84 ___ L = 42

2. 28 + x + .4x = 70 ___ 1.4x = 42 ___ x = 42 / 1.4
