No, not necessarily.
The degree of the polynomial is the largest exponent of x.
So in this polynomial,
g%28x%29=5x%5E7%2B2x%2B1
The first term of g%28x%29 is 5x%5E7 and the degree is 7.
However,
f%28x%29=1%2B2x%2B3x%5E3%2Bx%5E5
The first term of f%28x%29 is 1, however the degree is 5.
