SOLUTION: Solve the system using the substitution method. x + 2y = 6 3x - 2y = 2 This is what I did: 3x - 2y = 2 .... x = -2y - 3 ___________ ___________ _______ (-2y - 3) + 2

Question 355338: Solve the system using the substitution method.
x + 2y = 6
3x - 2y = 2
This is what I did:
3x - 2y = 2 .... x = -2y - 3
_______________________________
(-2y - 3) + 2y = 6
=
-2y + 2y = 3
____________________
y= 3
_______________________________
x = -2y - 3
x= -2 (3) - 3
x = -9
I checked my solution and it was wrong. I don't know where I messed up

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x + 2y = 6
3x - 2y = 2
________________
x + 2y=6
y = 1/2x + 3
________________
x - 2y = 2
x - 2(1/2x + 3) = 2
x - 2x + 6 = 2
-x = -4
x = 4
