Question 354556: Two friends decide to meet in Chicago to attend a white sox game. Rob travels 100 miles in the same time that Carl travels 84 miles. Robs trip uses more interstate highways and he can average 8 mph more than Carl. What's robs average speed? Answer by mananth(16946) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Carl travels 84 miles. let carl's speed be x
Rob travels 100 miles his speed = x+8 mph
the time they take is same
..
Time = distance /speed
84/x=100/(x+8)
84(x+8)=100x
84x+672=100x
100x-84x=672
16x=672
/16
x=672/16
x= 42 mph carls speedRob's speed = x+8
=16+8=24 mph
