Let x be the amount of the 50% total solution. then (6L-x) would be the amount of the 20% total solutiom
.
question states
.50x + .20(6L-x)=.40*6L
.
simplify and solve
.30x = .40*6L - .20*6L
.
x (the amount of the 50% total solution)= 4L
the amount of the 20% total solution = 2L
