Let the second number is x
Then the first number be x+52
then +x%2Bx%2B52=-42+
+2x%2B52=-42+ subtract 52 from each side
+2x=-42-52+
+2x=-94 divide both sides by 2
+x=-47
so the second number is -47 then the first number is -47+52=5
