17x-79=-4x-2 Start with the given equation.


17x=-4x-2%2B79 Add 79 to both sides.


17x%2B4x=-2%2B79 Add 4x to both sides.


21x=-2%2B79 Combine like terms on the left side.


21x=77 Combine like terms on the right side.


x=%2877%29%2F%2821%29 Divide both sides by 21 to isolate x.


x=11%2F3 Reduce.
