A) 176 - 170 = 6 lbs; 45 - 15 = 30 days

Solve by ratio:

6/30 = x/15 .....solve for x

x = 3 lbs .....so, in 15 days time, he is able to lose 3 lbs

176 lbs + 3 lbs = 179 lbs ......weight a day 0; beginning of diet

B) 179 - 165 = 14 lbs

Solve by ratio:

3 lbs /15 days = 14 lbs / x ......solve for x

x = 14 (15) / 3

x = 70 days
