twice the larger is 6 plus twice the smaller,

hence twice the larger minus the smaller is 6 plus the smaller, equals fifteen,

the smaller is then fifteen minus six equals nine,
the larger is then three plus nine, equals twelve.

Verification : twelve equals 3 plus 9, and twice twelve, twenty-four, minus nine, equals fifteen. (fifteen plus nine equals twenty-four).
