Call the width of the uniform border x
The border will add 2x to the width of the pool
and 2x to the length of the pool.
So, a short side of the rectangular fence is 18+%2B+2x
Double this to get both sides
36+%2B+4x
The long side is 22+%2B+2x
Double this also
44+%2B+4x
Add these to get the circumference
36+%2B+4x+%2B+44+%2B+4x+=+80+%2B+8x
He has 60 yds or 180 ft of fence, so
180+=+80+%2B+8x
8x+=+100
x+=+12.5 ft
The border is 12.5 ft wide
check:
36+%2B+4%2A12.5+%2B+44+%2B+4%2A12.5+=+180
36+%2B+50+%2B+44+%2B+50+=+180
180+=+180
