You can put this solution on YOUR website! Planters Nuts Inc wants to make a 15lb of mixed nuts from peanuts that cost $4/lb and mixed nuts without peanuts that cost $7/lb. The cost of the final mixture should be $6/lb. How many lbs of peanuts should be used? Show equation.
-------------------------
Let p be amount of peanuts
Let n be amount without peanuts.
---
Quantity Equation: p + n = 15 lb
Value Equation::: 4p + 7n = 6*15 dollars
--------------------------------------------
Multiply thru 1st by 7.
7p + 7n = 7*15
4p + 7n = 6*15
-------------------
Subtract the 2nd from the 1st and solve for "p":
3p = 15
p = 5 lb (amt. of peanuts used)
