You can put this solution on YOUR website!
latoya is twice as old as her cousin was 3 years ago. if the sum of their ages now is 15, how old is each one of them?
:
Let t = L's present
Let c = cousin's present age
:
Write an equation for each statement
:
"latoya is twice as old as her cousin was 3 years ago."
t = 2(c-3)
t = 2c - 6
:
"the sum of their ages now is 15,"
t + c = 15
Replace t with (2c-6)
2c - 6 + c = 15
3c = 15 + 6
3c = 21
c = 21%2F3
c = 7 yrs, cousin's present age
then
t = 2c - 6
t = 2(7) - 6
t = 8 yrs is L's present age
