abe and his younger sister are 3 years apart in age. if the sum of their ages will be 35 next year, what are their ages now?
----------------------------
Equations:
a-s = 3
a+s = 35
----
Add and solve for "a":
2a = 38
a = 19 (abe's age)
---------
Since a+s = 35, s = 35-19 = 16 (his sister's age)

abe and his younger sister are 3 years apart in age. if the sum of their ages will be 35 next year, what are their ages now?

Let Abe's current age be A, and his sister's age S

Then
A - S = 3_____eq (i)
(A + 1) + (S + 1) = 35____A + S = 33_____eq (ii)

A - S = 3______eq (i)
A + S = 33_____eq (ii)
2A = 36

A, or Abe's current age = 36%2F2, or highlight_green%2818%29 years.

18 - S = 3____- S = - 15____S, or sister's current age = %28-15%29%2F-1 = highlight_green%2815%29 years.
