Solve for x:
2%282x%2B9%29+=-16 Divide both sides of the equation by 2..
2x%2B9+=+-8 Subtract 9 from both sides.
2x+=+-17 Finally, divide both sides by 2.
x+=+-17%2F2
x = -8.5

the given equation is 2(2x+9) = -16.
try to multiply the 2 with the numbers inside the bracket,
we get,
4x + 18 = -16
4x = -16 -18
therefore x = -34/4
= -17/2. (or) -8.5 (simplifying)
