You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Two bicycle riders start at the same point and travel in opposite directions. One travels 5 kilometers per hour faster than the other. In 3 hours they are 117 kilometers apart: How fast is each traveling?
--------
1st rider DATA:
time = 3 hrs. ; rate = x km/h ; distance = 3x km
------------------------
2nd rider DATA:
time = 3 hrs. ; rate = x+5 km/h ; distance 3(x+5) km
==========================
Equation:
distance + distance = 117 km
3x + 3(x+5) = 117 km
3x + 3x+15 = 117
6x = 102
x = 17 km/h (1st rider rate)
====
x+5 = 22 km/h (2nd rider rate)
=================================
