You can put this solution on YOUR website! One angle of a triangle is 3 times as large as another. The measure of the third angle is 40 degrees more than that of the smallest angle. Find the measure of each angle.
.
Let x = smallest angle
then
3x = largest angle
x+40 = third angle
.
x + 3x + x+40 = 180
5x + 40 = 180
5x = 140
x = 140/5
x = 28 degs (smallest)
.
Largest:
3x = 3(28) = 84 degs
.
Third:
x+40 = 28+40 = 68 degs
