You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Where's the 4 come from??
.
.
.
Assume there are X people going originally.
Then the cost per person is
C%5B1%5D=575%2FX
When you add the 2 people you now have X+2 people and the cost per person becomes,
C%5B2%5D=575%2F%28X%2B2%29
And you know that,
C%5B2%5D=C%5B1%5D-2
Now substitute into this equation.
575%2F%28X%2B2%29=575%2FX-2
Multiply both sides by the product of the denominators X%28X%2B2%29
575X=575%28X%2B2%29-2X%28X%2B2%29
575X=575X%2B1150-2X%5E2-4X
2X%5E2%2B4X-1150=0
X%5E2%2B2X-575=0
This equation is factorable.
%28X-23%29%28X%2B25%29=0
Two solutions but only the positive solution makes sense here.
X-23=0
X=23
When X=23, C=575%2F23=25dollars per person
When X=25, C=575%2F25=23dollars per person, a $2 reduction.
