Question 344009: We are working on how to factor a monimial from a polynomial. My teacher gave us an assignment of 60 questions, If you could just help me with 5 that would be great.
7b-7
9x-5x^2
a^2b^2+ab
3a^2b^2-9ab^2+15b^2
a(y-x)-b(y-x)

You can put this solution on YOUR website! We are working on how to factor a monimial from a polynomial. My teacher gave us an assignment of 60 questions, If you could just help me with 5 that would be great.
7b-7
9x-5x^2
a^2b^2+ab
3a^2b^2-9ab^2+15b^2
a(y-x)-b(y-x)
monomial is a polynomial with 1 term
examples of monomials: 2x^3, 3xy, y^2, and 4
many of these you gave would be solved by distributive rule
distributive rule: a(b + c) = ab + ac
7b - 7 = 7(b - 1), monomial factor here is 7
9x - 5x^2 = x(9 - 5x), monomial factor of x
a^2 * b^2 + ab = ab(ab + 1), monomial factor of ab
3a^2b^2-9ab^2+15b^2 = 3b^2(a^2 - 3a + 5), monomial factor of 3b^2
a(y-x)-b(y-x) = (y - x)(a - b) these 2 factors are both binomials, there are no monomial factors other than 1 and -1, however a is the monomial factor of a(y - x) and b is the monomial factor of b(y - x)
