Question 343482: expected to maintain an average speed of 60 mph for 2 miles, unfortunately engine develops a miss can only maintain 30 mph for the first mile. How fast must you drive the second mile to meet overall average speed requirement? Answer by solver91311(24713) (Show Source):
Impossible. To maintain an average speed of 60 miles per hour for 2 miles, you must cover the 2 miles in 2 minutes. But if you only go 30 miles per hour for the first mile, it takes you 2 minutes to complete that first mile. That leaves you 0 time to cover the second mile. In order to travel one mile in 0 minutes you must go infinitely fast. Like I said, impossible.
