You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Two planes leave an airport at the same time, one flying east, the other flying west.
---
The eastbound plane travels 110 mph slower.
Let rate of the westbound plane be x mph
Then rate of the eastbound plane is (x-110) mph
---
They are 2250 mi apart after 3 hr. Find the speed of each plane.
---
Equation:
distance + distance = 2250 miles
3x + 3(x-110) = 2250
6x - 330 = 2250
6x = 2580
x = 430 mph (rate of the westbound plane)
x-110 = 320 mph (rate of the eastbound plane)
