Question 341591: Pls help me solve this problem it's the only problem that I wasn't able to solve. Here it is: A train leaves new york city going west. An express going 20 mph faster leaves new york city 2 hours later on the same track going west. 6 hours later, the express hits the slower train. Find their speeds when the express hits the slower train. Thank you very much in advance!

You can put this solution on YOUR website! when the collision occurs ; the train had been traveling for 8 hrs , and the express had been traveling for 6 hrs

___ (rate) * (time) = distance
let x="rate of train" , so x+20="rate of express"
8(x) = 6(x + 20)
8x = 6x + 120 ___ 2x = 120 ___ x = 60
