You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Hello,
First Describe the variables and write the equation:
VARIABLES: a=Adults 3a=Children so,
EQUATION: a%2B3a=80

Now combine like terms:
a%2B3a=4a

You are left with:
4a=80+ divide by 4

80%2F4=20 SO, a=20 There were 20 Adults

restate the eqation for the children
C=3a

Plug in the numbers and multiply:
3%2820%29=60

So, there were 20 Adults and 60 Children.

TO CHECK ANSWER
restate the equation:
a%2B3a=80
Plug in the numbers:
20%2B3%2820%29=80

Multiply:
3%2820%29=60

You are left with:
20%2B60=80 now add 20+60

80=80 Therefore the answer is correct.
