Question 34086: Can you explain in detail how this is achieved and help me with this please?
Find the slope of the line that passes through the points (4, -7) and (-2, -5).
Thank you
Answer by kietra(57) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! The formula for slope is this: m=(y2-y1)/(x2-x1) with the points (x1, y1),(x2,y2).
So, with your points (4, -7) and (-2, -5), plug into the formula:
m=(-7 - (-5))/(4 - (-2))
m=(-7 + 5)/(4 + 2)
m=(-2)/(6)
Then reduce your fraction.
m=(-1)/(3)
A side note, it doesn't matter which pair of points is x1 and x2- you just need to be consistent and have the order the same- x1 with y1 and x2 with y2.
