Question 339858: A truck enters a highway driving 60 mph. A car enters the highway at the same place 8 minutes later and drives 75 mph in the same direction. From the time the car enters the highway, how long will it take the car to pass the truck? Answer by solver91311(24713) (Show Source):
60 miles per hour is one mile per minute. If the car enters the highway 8 minutes after the truck passes, the truck has to be 8 miles ahead. The first 60 mph of the car's speed is used in just keeping up with the truck, so the additional 75 - 60 = 15 mph is what is used to catch up to the truck. How long does it take a car going 15 mph to go 8 miles?
