A=LW Start with the area of a rectangle formula.


A%2FL=W Divide both sides by L to isolate "W".


W=A%2FL Flip the equation.


W=%28450%29%2F%2824%29 Plug in A=450 and L=24.


W=18.75 Divide 450 into 24 to get 18.75.


So if a rectangle has a length of 24 inches and an area of 450 square inches, then it must have a width of 18.75 inches.
