5x-2-2%28x%2B1%29=7x%2B7 Start with the given equation.


5x-2-2x-2=7x%2B7 Distribute.


3x-4=7x%2B7 Combine like terms on the left side.


3x=7x%2B7%2B4 Add 4 to both sides.


3x-7x=7%2B4 Subtract 7x from both sides.


-4x=7%2B4 Combine like terms on the left side.


-4x=11 Combine like terms on the right side.


x=%2811%29%2F%28-4%29 Divide both sides by -4 to isolate x.


x=-11%2F4 Reduce.
