You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Month Average Price per dozen
April $1.26
May $1.20
june $1.08
The table above shows the arithmentic mean per dozen of the large grade A eggs sold in a certain store during three successive months.
If 2/3 as many dozen were sold in April as in May, and
twice as many were sold in June as in April, what was the average price per dozen of the eggs sold over the three month period?
------------------
Comment: The ratio of April eggs to May eggs is 2 to 3,
which is the same as 2x to 3x
--
The ratio of June eggs to April eggs is 2 to 1.
But April eggs is 2x so June eggs must be 4x.
----
Then the total number of eggs is 2x+3x+4x = 9x
--------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------
April = 2x
May = 3x
June = 4x
---------------------
Add the value of all the eggs and divide by the number of eggs to get
the average cost.
--------------------------
[(1.26*2x)+1.2(3x)+(1.08*4x)]/9x = $1.16

----------------
