Start by getting rid of the fraction, multiply both sides by 3
x = 3(36x+7)
:
x = 108x + 21
:
-21 = 108x - x
:
-21 = 107x
x =
x = -.19626 (approx) in decimal form

-.06542 = -7.06536 + 7
-.06542 ~ -.06536; close enough to confirm solution x =

You want to isolate "x" so get them on the same
side of the equal sign.
---------
x/3 - 36x = 7
---------
Factor out the "x":
x((1/3)-36) = 7
---------
Simplify the parenthesis:
x(-35 2/3)) = 7
---
Solve for "x":
x = 7/(-35 2/3)
---
x = 7/(-107/3)
---
x = -21/107
