Question 336104: How many liters of water must be added to 8 liters of a 40% acid solution to obtain a 10% acid solution ? Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! How many liters of water must be added to 8 liters of a 40% acid solution to obtain a 10% acid solution ?
--------
Equation:
water + water = water
0.60*8 + x = 0.90(x+8)
Multiply thru by 100 to get:
60*8 + 100x = 90x + 90*8
10x = 30*8
x = 8/3 = 2 2/3 liters (amt of water that must be added to the mixture)
=====================================
You could also use the following equation:
acid + acid = acid
0.40*8 + 0*x = .10(x+8)
Multiply by 100 to get:
40*8 = 10x + 10*8
10x = 30*8
x = 8/3 = 2 2/3 liters (amt of water that must be added to the mixture)
