Question 335782: 1. Decide if the situation presented below contains a potential for bias. If it does, tell what the form of bias is, and how it can be prevented:
A respected News organization has been taking polls prior to each Presidential Election by calling people on their home phones and asking who they plan to vote for. Over the years, they have been very accurate in their predictions. However, in 2008, somebody noticed that many people did not own home phones, and rather used cell phones full time. Cell phones are not listed in the directory assistance from which the News organization pulls its sample.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Well the bias is towards people who own landlines. Those who don't own any phones or those who exclusively rely on cell phones will not be reached at all (since it's stated that cell phone numbers aren't listed). So they won't be represented at all. Also, there might be bias if the questions are worded the wrong way.
