You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let #of dimes be "x".
Then # of nickels is "2x"
And # of quarters is "23-x-2x"= "23-3x"
Value of dimes is 10x cents
Value of nickels is 5(2x)=10x cents
Value of quarters is 25(23-3x)= 525-75x cents
EQUATION:
value + value + value = 245 cents
10x + 10x + 525-75x = 245
-55x=-330
x=6 (number of dimes
2x = 12 (number of nickels)
23-3x=23-18= 5 (number of quarters)

I have 23 coins...dimes, nickels, quarters...that equal $2.45. I must have twice the number of nickels as dimes.AS PER YOUR ANSWER THE VALUE IS $2.45..O.K...
LET DIMES=D
NICKELS IS TWICE THIS ..THAT = 2D
HENCE QUARTERS =23-D-2D=23-3D...SINCE TOTAL COINS ARE 23.
THEIR VALUE IS
5*2D+10*D+25*(23-3D)=245
10D+10D+575-75D=245
55D=330
D=330/55=6
HENCE NICKELS ARE 2*6=12...............ITS VALUE = 60
DIMES ARE 6............................ITS VALUE = 60
QUARTERS ARE 23-3*6=5..................ITS VALUE = 125
TOTAL VALUE........................................245...OR..2.45 $
I know the answer is 12 nickels, 6 dimes and 5 quarters, but I don't know how to write the equation. Thanks in advance for your help.
